Its been a year or so since I last used to read this little area, and I was straight in here when It started up. I missed out on getting a roadster last time I had the opportunity. Now its coming around again, got a few more questions to ponder while I waste time on the classisfieds...

Is it really worth waiting till Autumn? I dont expect prices actually 'fall' that much, but is the market likely to be a bit more healthy from a buyers perspective? More cars to choose from?

The Winter summer thing does apply in the case of classics/more expensive cars, but is it really so relevant when were talking about Mk1 Eunos's for a couple of grand or so?

Is it just me, or are there less reallyp cheap early ones about than there were 2 years ago when I was first looking?

Second question - De-cats. I need a decatted exhaust in my life. What year car do I need to be able to legally run de-cat. Pre 93 for a UK car, later for a Eunos?

I find it doesn't make that much of a difference really. There a both pros and cons for doing either from both a buyers' and sellers' perspective. Just go out when you are ready and buy the best you can for what you have.

It goes like that. Some people who perhaps would have traded up etc are probably thinking it's not worth the bother given the economic circumstances etc.

Pre 93. Not sure about Eunos, but bear in mind that a decatted exhaust alone won't do a great deal. A sports exhaust like a Larini for e.g would do much more for your aural pleasure than just a decat.

A Larini + Decat on the other hand...

Oh yeah, naturally... Full stainless would be on the cards no doubt.

My Mk2.5 1.8 has a Larini mid-pipe and sport cat and a Racing Beat dual-exit rear-box and it's LOUD! Sounds great to me but may be too loud for some.

I don't think summer / winter really affects price much these days as the roof is so good its not like the old MG's where you got wet in winter so they were stored away.

I think there are loads of utter bargains about if you look hard and are prepared to travel.

Unfortunately there are some right dogs too.

CAT's IIRC Pre K plate UK and pre 96 import.

True but I've driven it a couple of times with the SC bypass tied open to make it na and it's hardly any quieter at all, in fact it's a bit louder as I have to rev it harder to make progress - with the sc I can poodle around under 3krpm and still be driving faster than 99% of the traffic biggrin

Would sales be slower in the winter? I'm in half a mind to sell mine before winter as I don't want to be cold just to have the roof off (yes I'm a wimp)

If you like the car just buy a hardtop for the winter. Pick them up for £500 or so upwards 2nd hand. You'll spend more selling the MX and buying something else I'd think. Plus it's an asset you can sell for £500 or so upwards in 3 or so years time.

Or don't put the top down if it's cold. Seems a shame to sell just because you don't want to have to put the top down when you don't want to.

it won't be a long term car anyway as i'm off to New Zealand in about 12 months so will be sold before. The mx is a superb car and i love it to bits, but half of that is with the top down. Since it's my plane ticket, I do want to get the highest possible amount for it.
