Need a mx5 buyers guide

Hello people,

I'm looking to buy an MX5, I know very little about them, but from what I hear I think one will fulfill the criteria for a car to buy my girlfriend that I could enjoy driving and wouldn't begrudge working on.

My criteria for a vehicle

• I want a convertible with the possibility of a detachable hard top
• Rear wheel drive
• Fun driving experience
• Reliability
• Something that my other half would be happy to drive on a daily basis
• A project/toy that I can pass off as a my solution to my womans transport problems

What I need is your opinions on which model to get and why and how much to pay or sources of information on buying

What sort of budget are you looking at? Personally I like the Mk1 best and it certainly fits all your criteria. You can get a good example from £2k upwards, maybe even a little less. If you have a £10k budget you are into Mk3 territory. But also Chimaera territory!
