Let this be a warning - superglue will fk up your instrument cluster!

My own fault obviously, I should have checked first. But the plastic front, black back part, dial faces, chrome dial rings and needle caps are all knackered. Bugger.

Oh...and thanks for the warning!

Good luck with the next cluster!

if you use superglue, do it in a well ventilated area (outside preferably) and don't put it all back together until it's fully dried.
The police use superglue fumes to show finger-prints on plastic...

Unfortunately I couldn't get the clear plastic away from the rest of it, so I just slid the rings through the bottom edge by lifting it away a touch. I've already cracked the replacement binnacle trying to remove the clear part frown

Have dropped a line to MX5parts asking them to please warn people about this. Maybe they will take pity on me and send me new stuff!

I've made a mess with Superglue like this before too.

Have you tried polishing it out on the clear part - with some Tcut initially and then some plastic polish or is it too deep?

I've done the rings replacement on a Mk1 but I can't remember how I separated the clear from the black - I *think* I heated it up somehow until the glue melted but I can't recall how...

For what it's worth - it may be better to use an alternative adhesive.

Silicone rubber (don't laugh) is good for this sort of thing, and is very strong but can be seperated if need be.

Something like araldite or impact adhesive would probably be good for the rings.

Superglue has a nasty habit of not drying very quickly if it's not in a joint, so unless used v sparingly on small things, I'd tend to leave well alone.

MX5Parts recommended silicone sealant (albeit too late to prevent the initial cock up). I did try polishing the marks out but although they dull down, they still obscure the dials. Ah well, onwards and upwards. Springs and dampers this weekend, wonder what I can fk up on that job hehe

Just to add insult to injury I fitted those chrome covers to mine and took them off 2 days later due to the fact they reflect the sun right into your eyes (obviously it needs to be behind you)

I also managed to bugger my speedo pushing it on to hard frown

DON'T USE SILICON SEALANT OR SUPERGLUE TO FIT YOUR SUSPENSION!

Hope this helps...

I managed to do the exact same thing with my cluster. I sorted it by removing the glass front, wiping it down with spirits, removing the plastic gauge surround and spraying it with matt black. I had to replace the dial faces that were marked though as I couldn't remove it from the faces, but it all looked fine in the end.
