What's so wrong with the RX8?
Discussion
We get quite a few each week at the auction; usually no more than a couple of years old and never faulty or damaged, as far as I know. This alone is a bit strange.
Today we had 6 or 7 of them!
They usually sell. The ones I've driven seem practical, comfy and 'brisk', if a bit prone to going sideways on smooth tarmac. Would this be why we get to sell them on, instead of local showrooms?

Must admit I'm surprised at how little these are going for, even the desirable 230 brake version.
It's depressing as we are searching Mazda listings for a new or nearly new Mazda2 Sport and RX8's are coming up in the same price bracket (albeit on 55 plates with about 20-30k miles).
I wish the mrs would drive a bigger car!!

230hp isnt the whole story though - the lack of torque makes it feel gutless in day to day driving. not everyone wants to redline all the time!
also most of the competitor super-hatches are turbo'd (Focus ST, Megane RS, Golf GTi etc) so have far more midrange punch.
Hmmm, I wouldn't put the RX8 in competition with those cars. More like a 3 series coupe rival?also most of the competitor super-hatches are turbo'd (Focus ST, Megane RS, Golf GTi etc) so have far more midrange punch.
If you don't want to redline it then don't buy a rotary. There is plenty of torque - that's what gearing and 9,000 revs is for. You'd need to go for a 325 to get to a similar 0-60 and (for what it's worth) an E46 M3 to get the same Top Gear laptime. That's not exactly regarded as gutless is it? Torque at the wheels will make the car go. The characteristics of the engine will determine the gearing which will determine the torque at the wheels. A turbo diesel that produces bags of torque at low revs needs long gears so doesn't get the torque multiplication that a rotary or VTEC can get by running shorter gearing.
'Supply and demand'... there's a lot of 'em out there in the trade and this was reflected in two massive successive recent book drops for late registered cars.
Also the '4 door coupe appearance' is no longer fresh and the previously stated emissions and woeful mpg are stalling buyers. They will however reach a base price that will be too hard to ignore - still a cracking car! IMHO

I think the main problem is the lack of power for the type of car it is......
Its never been a car for straight line speed, its about handling. Remember it was as quick as the old shape M3 round the top gear track. If (like me) you need rear seats its a nice alternative to 3 series coupe etc. Oil consumption not as bad as they all say, fuel consumption.....is. Luckily I dont have to pay for mine so its round to the 9K beep as much as possible,
