Having purchased a '99 mk2 mx5 a couple of weeks ago, I find this morning that the hood is leaking! It is the original so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Anyway, does anyone know of someone who can replace it, preferably around the Bristol/South West area (but anywhere if not)? It seems it shouldn't cost more than £250.

Many thanks in advance,
Craig.

The car I just bought had a new hood from Bristol Sunroof Centre earlier this year, invoice total was £380 which seems a lot, however they do seem to have done a decent job of it. 0117 972 8383

thanks for the reply miniman. Does that have the heated rear window? If it does then that price seems pretty reasonable.

No it's a bog standard vinyl roof with plastic window. Like you, I would have expected mohair with heated glass at that price to be honest.

I think a lot of the £250 ish figures are just to buy the hood and fit it yourself.

Thanks a lot for the replies. Gave Jack Smith's aring and you're right, £250 with heated glass (mine)!!

However, given that the water is coming in from the window tops, I've been advised to adjust the weather-strips and check the drainage holes. After a downpour, when I brake, all the water comes out and onto the passenger seat! So will check the seals first.

Thanks again.

I have the exact same problem with mine. What do you mean by adjusting the weather strips?

The rubber seals at the top of the window (attached to the frame) can be removed and checked over by removing two screws. Underneath, there is a stainless steel runner whose screws can be loosened; the runner can then be moved 'outwards' and the screws tightened and the rubber seals replaced. This causes a firmer seal with the window when the door is shut. I haven't tried this yet, but if the rain stops sometime this year I might give it a try!
Cheers.
