Planning on tackling a set of Eibach springs and KYB dampers at the weekend. Have read through the workshop manual and it all looks pretty straightforward - however there is a section that talks about marking the position of the lower wishbone pivot bolts to aid refitting - and a warning that failure to do so means "setting up the suspension from scratch using special tools".

Has anyone done this procedure, and what is needed in terms of setup once it's done? Clearly 4-wheel alignment is going to be essential - anything else?

i didn't bother marking the suspension bolts - once you lower the car you'll need a re-alignment anyway so there isn't much point.

I quite agree, you will need to get it done frown

Ah, good, so it's just a realignment that's needed - I had planned for that anyway. The workshop manual made it sound like a much more significant amount of setup work. Thanks for the input!

All went well once I had got a mate round with a deep 14mm socket for the rear damper top nut. Followed these instructions http://www.mx5ocforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=15330 and they do mean that the job can be done without breaking any ball joints. I think the procedure is designed for replacing shocks / springs like-for-like as it also avoids needing to reset the alignment / setup.

Just need to get it over to someone for setting up properly before first track day with it on 11th August.

Final update to this:

Took the car over to Neil Garner at Kemble (www.neilgarner.co.uk) to have the suspension fully set up. Mine was the cheapest car in the workshop by, oooh, about £15k hehe but this clearly doesn't have any bearing on the work done - they have done a cracking job and it really is so much better than standard, turns in beautifully. Recommend Neil if you need anything done - at £55/hr labour they are excellent value and the workshop is like an operating theatre hehe
