Seeing as i'm replacing the cat, the downpipe + heat shield looks like it has seen better days so i was hoping to replace it all at the same time, but where are the 1.8 downpipes hiding?
MX5 parts has one listed, but for the 1.6, none on autolink either. frown
Bruddy cars, who'd have 'em?

Cheers (AGAIN!) Dennis, I found a pipe for £60 (fitted) which i thought was pretty good, but like you say, it's only the heat shield that looks a bit knackered and the new ones don't come with them, so i think your idea would be the best bet. I was going to ask my friend who's a bit handy with the welder to make me one, if i don't do what you said.

I think I've got a 4 branch 1.8 manifold buried in my spare room somewhere which I didn't get around to fitting before I bought the turbo (which I haven't fitted yet either... paperbag) I'm down in Oxford if you fancy a bit of engine bay bling.

That would be good, great infact, but i've been spending MORE than enough this month! Shame, as oxford isn't that far away from me either, I'll have to see if the offer still stands after i keep a check on the purse strings for next month. I could buy it off you now, but oooooh......ahhhhhh........nah...ummmmmmmm..... scratchchin i need to save money, GAH!

I think i will do that, the only thing i was wondering was, that if my emissions are sky high, i need to give the cat as much help as i can by keeping the heat in it. I just want to get it through the MOT at the minute, i'm worrying incase the cat and O2 sensor wont fix it.

Ahhh the voice of reason! Yeah, it is just the heat shield that's seen better days, mustn't be so frivolous!
Planning on a trip to the maldives too this year, so really need to save the beer tokens up.
