Hi there guys and gals. Im going to have a look at an mx-5 tomorrow. I've posted this up in GG but it's not getting a look in so far.

I spotted a light non-metallic blue k-plate 1.6 mx-5 for sale. From a quick glace over, its got slightly deep dish alloys, nice clean interior (althought I did look through a closed window in bright sunlight), bonnet is slightly raised on the front left hand corner although I think this is just a bonnet mount adjustment needed, looks in ok condition, no rust from what I could see etc. I gave the owner of the garage its parked outside of a call for a bit of info.

It was imported by the garage owner on behalf of his brother for the cost of 4k 2-3 years ago, and was given a new clutch, roof and ariel. He wasnt sure of the mileage being his brothers car. It has four brand new tyres, new 12 Mot, I forgot to ask about tax, it has a new 4 branch manifold with s/s exhaust although the exit is too large for my taste. Thought whole car looks tasteful with the exception of the exhaust.

I'm a complete mx-5 novice so what should I be looking out for? How do I test for any well known issues? Any info would be welcome. Cheers!

I guess it all depends how much the car you've seen is. Does the dealer have a website we can see the car on?

There's plenty of buying info here if you use the search. This topic covers most of the basics:

Fundamentally, they're well-designed cars that don't have too many common faults so it shouldn't be too hard to find a good one.

There are plenty of specialist websites too, like www.mx5nutz.com
