Wiper Problem

[Negative Creep]

Very odd one this, I've never encountered such a problem before. When I bought my Eunos, it had a single wiper. Not a conversion, they'd just taken the drivers' side off and moved the passenger one up a bit, which not only looked rubbish but didn't do anything for visibility. So I bough a pair of second hand ones off a UK car and fitted them, only problem now being that the drivers blade sweeps off the A pillar and car! When the screen is wet it will return, juddering all the way, but if the screen is dry it will get stuck. Although it clears the screen, I'm worried it will pack up and leave me blind on the motorway. To better illustrate, I took this video

I have put the drivers arm down as far as it will go but that makes no difference. Upon checking the wiper linkage, there is this aftermarket alloy spacer



but there is no way of just taking it off as the ball type linkage won't connect to the threaded wiper motor. Another thing I have noticed is that the bonnet is just catching the top of the drivers arm when opening and shutting. I'm stumped by this and don't want to go out and buy new linkage and motor without knowing the cause. Help!
