MX5 - How much for a decent'ish Mk1?
Discussion
Done a quick check over the weekend at the insurance on these and they dont seem to be that bad which is pushing me towards a change of car.
So.. How much are decent UK Spec Mk1`s? 1.6 is fine and probably the safest bet, Although open to 1.8`s
I will have around £2500 - £3500 at an absolute stretch.
Im also not a plate we so G reg`s dont scare me aslong as they dont have a bad case of tin worm!

I paid just under 1500 for mine, 1.6 K reg Eunos Roadster in black, plus about 2-300 for little bits here and there (pads, discs, chrome tit bits etc) and its spot on.
Only had it a couple of weeks but had it checked out yesterday by an MOT tester/mechanic and sod all wrong with it... chuffed....
Good Luck!!

Top money, but I'm sure an offer near the top of your range should secure it. This car is as good as it gets IMHO

Something like that would be quite wasted on me I feel!.. I think the Fester is worth around £2300 So ontop of that a couple of months saving should take it to around 3Top money, but I'm sure an offer near the top of your range should secure it. This car is as good as it gets IMHO

Hi, my mate is selling his BRG tan leater and roof, needs a bit of work and he only wants £1500 pm me for his details if interested.
Ideally it would be something ready to run as it would be my only car! If anyone off here has a half decent one for not bad money I would probably be quite interested..ALawson said:
We paid £1800 last October for a Mk1 1.6, 80k miles 2 owner car. Then spent a few quid on new disks, pads, mats, thermostat, filter & oil.
Just need to find out when the first ones came into the country as it was a early car into the UK.
Ok.. What is the 1.6 like as my fiesta is a 1.6(100hp (probably lost 95) and fairly nippy albeit tosh in a straight line?Just need to find out when the first ones came into the country as it was a early car into the UK.
No standard MX5 will be ferociously quick in a straight line. The early 1.6 (pre 94) is 116bhp and nice and revvy. The 94 on 1.8 is around 130ish bhp and a little torquier, but doesn't rev quite as freely. There's not a huge difference between the two in reality. The 94 on 1.6 (only available in Europe I believe) is a de-tuned 90bhp engine to differentiate it from the 1.8. Avoid.

Im not really bothered about straight line aslong as it will keep up with the flow in terms of rush hour bypass blast! In your eyes with say £2500 to spend what would be the best buy? 1.6 for insurance more than likely
Reg+Spec?
My latest is a 1.8. £3k got me a just imported 1.8 Eunos with no rust on it at all, but no extras either. If insurance is an issue, get a few quotes to see whether it's prohibitive for any of them - 1.6 might be cheaper, imports might be more expensive, etc. There are plenty around, so go more by condition than age, mileage or origin IMHO.
Our snotter will do a 100 mph and it feels, it isn't the quickest nor the slowest. But it is an absolute hoot to drive, I always laughed at the MX5 responses to peoples what car questions, but I will give the car a good blast when ever I get the opportunity.
Oh, if its your first RWD car just be careful
They are also pretty economical, and mechanically bullet proof. Just look at some of the milages on cars for sale.
