bargain price too, really wanted a manual but on a strict budget so I can afford this one. Drive a Jeep auto as a daily drive so don't mind a slush box
Anyone got a spare engine??

I might have, but only a 1.6 (107k miles) and that wont be for a little while yet - it will need work!! see my thread (bitten off more than i can chew)bargain price too, really wanted a manual but on a strict budget so I can afford this one. Aren't all auto's 1.6?
The 1.6 in the auto is different from a manual 1.6. The cam profiles are different and they have a lower compression ratio which boosts mid-range torque which is what the auto-box needs rather than top-end power.
You could probably fit a 1.8 but it's not a simple task. You can buy a kit from FM but I doubt that will have everything you'd need for an auto - you'd probably have to swap the gearbox at the same time.
