Can anyone recommend a good insurer for an imported Mazda MX-5 Eunos Roadster 1.8i? I've tried Adrian Flux and Elephant and they're quoting £600-700 which I thought was a bit steep.

Just done it myself with Aon. They were by far the cheapest when insuring the Mazda as a second car, as they mirrored the no-claims. £200 for the year on a driveway in Birmingham.

Have you tried classic car insurance? Is it old enough? would have to be limited mileage policy.

ps I'll never use Adrian Flux again after experiencing them last year - I've never known such absurd beaurocracy from an insurance company. EVERYTHING done in writing, including photos of driving license, copies of immoboliser certificates, cancelling insurance etc etc. It really hacked me off as it wasted so much of my time. I'd hate to have a claim with them!

I used Adrian Flux and had to make a claim, it was settled in a couple of weeks.

It's a 1997, so not old enough unfortunatley.

I'll give them a try. Cheers.

how old does a car have to be for classic insurance? mines a 1989, would that qualify?

Have you tried Sky? I insured my RS-LTD with them for about £700 at 23.

I've ping ponged between A-Plan and Adrian Flux the last few years. I've not tried AON since they gave me a silly quote years ago (possibly age related), so might be worth a try again now.

I had a claim through Adrian Flux and it all went very smoothly.

edit: To put your £600-£700 into perspective after my claim the next years insurance renewal was £1250 up from ~£600.

I think it's either 15 or 20 years. Really it depends on the insurer. I dont think there is an "official classic" age that they all use....could be wrong though.

I'm 34 with 3 yrs NCB and the cheapest I can get is some no-names for £320 - Elephant come in at £340 so have decided to stay with them. That is parked on a driveway in the Welsh sticks! I thought insurance was supposed to be cheaper when you got old. frown

I'm 31 and also park it on a remote welsh driveway and pay similar money with Direct Line. But I did have it as a second car on my policy for about 210 a month when I had the focus too

Mine ended up costing more than my old 200SX. £750 at 25 with 0 points and 5 years ncd seemed a bit of a rip off, even when parked on the street.

Particularly when you factor in when it gets crashed into on the street and they dont leave details, it's a claim against you and they'll try and more than double your policy next year....theving gits. smile

Nah no mods - the closest they have on the Elephant database is VR-Ltd. Mine is an R-Ltd.

Have you tried the Post Office by any chance?

I'm insured on my 1993 Eunos Roadster for £350 for the year fully comp. (27, no points 5 years protected NCD)

Sorted. Had a lovely chat with a chap from More>Than this afternoon. After initially telling me that they didn't insure imports, and me insisting he must be mistaken as it's only a little Mazda Eunos Roadster, he spoke to a supervisor then did me fully comp for £300.
