Picked my car up yesterday, oh my god, amazing.

I've nothing really to compare it to other then my Pug 306 1.4 75hp!! lol.

Pulled into the office car park this morning with everyone wanting a go!!

Anyway, there are a few things i'd like to do to it. I apologise if any of these things have been answered already, if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated...

Stick on number plate? Took the badge off this morning and there are two small holes, can i just stick a numberplate over this and remove the one from the front bumper? Where can i get one from?

Security - Can anyone recommend a decent alarm/immobiliser that i can get fitted?

A/C - I've heard people remove this to save some weight, how is this done? Does it make a difference and are there any guides to weight saving?

Induction Kit - Will a pipercross or K&N filter or kit make a difference?

Seatbelts - The drivers side belt is knackered, no tension, where can I pick up a replacement?

Rear badges, are they easily removed? Any holes underneath?

Roof - No leaks at all, although it could do with a clean, will a vinyl cleaner be ok or is there any specialist cleaner for soft tops?

The radiator has taken alot of abuse due to no grill, so will need to replace it. Are they simple to replace or should i leave it too the experts?

I guess fitting a grill once the new rad is in will be a good idea?

Thats all i can think of at the minute but would appreciate anyones advice on things to do to make a great car better!!

I've thought of the turbo/supercharger option, but I doubt my insurer will be happy!!!

Thanks guys.

Excellent, enjoy it, especially with weather like today!

Technically sticky plates are no longer legal as none of them meet the requirements for a legal plate. You can buy show plates online for off road use - I'm sure you'll re-fit the legal plate when driving the car on the road, won't you?

There are several parts to the AC. The evaporator which cools the cabin air is a box that sits between the blower motor and heater matrix under the dash behind the glove box. The compressor is bolted to a bracket on the engine and takes it's drive from an accessory belt. The condenser is a small radiator type device mounted in front (IIRC) of the water rad. They're all connected with metal hard lines. From memory there's around 20kg to be saved from removing it, but to do a proper job would take a bit of time and effort on a car that's all in one piece. Unless it's a seriously stripped track car, I'd keep hold of it. You'll be thankful for it when it's a hot humid rainy night and the car's steaming up.

Not really, bit nicer sound perhaps.

http://www.mx5parts.com/ for new or http://www.autolinkuk.co.uk/ for 2nd hand.

There are two holes behind the one on the right, none for the badge on the left. Usual badge removing technique applies.

Renovo is supposed to be very good, but I've not used it myself yet.

Is it the coolant rad or the AC compressor? The coolant rad is very easy to replace and a change of coolant is never a bad idea (the alloy head needs a good concentration of relatively fresh coolant to prevent corrosion). MX5Parts are a again a good source.

Can help prevent stone damage, tends to reduce the air flow slightly.

Wow thanks for the quick response.

Not long til lunch for me!!

Looks like i'll be leaving the A/C in place!

The number plate was mainly to cover the two small holes from the front badge, can i get a replacement badge from somewhere? Or is there an easy way to fill the holes? (would prefer no badge)

On the rear I have three badges, Eunos on the left (i think) with roadster on the right. Above roadster is a small Mazda MX-5 badge. If i pull them off and there are holes is it easy to source replacement badges?

With the rad its right at the very front, 2 fans connected to it. One large one abit smaller. Talking of the fans, although i've only had the car less than 24 hours, i've never seen the smaller fan come on. I've had the bonnet up a few times after a drive. Is this unusual?

One other thing, the rear fog on the bottom, can this easily be removed or is it a legal requirement to have one? Its the ugliest bit of the car!!

Required for MOT I think. Happy to be corrected tho smile

ETA - Renovo cleaner and proofer brought my hood up nicely, mines is mohair rather than vinyl tho.

A replacement panel filter might be worth picking up (£30ish from MX5parts). They sound good and apparently improve airflow. Might be worth doing a mini service while you're at it with new spark plugs, oil + filter, coolant if you're doing the rad.

Good luck thumbup

If you take the numberplate plinth off you'll be left with 2 big holes....If it's like the UK ones. So probably best to try and replace the badge.

The smaller fan will come on when you turn the AC on.

The brochure is ok but the website is much better. Only a small percentage of their products are in the brochure.

Phew was starting to get worried!

Just been out for a spin on my lunch break, brakes are squealing and pads look low, I guess mx5 parts are best bet for new pads?

My rear fog has been removed, the bumper smoothed and the wiring for the fog is wired into the high level brake light.

Jobs a good 'un, no probs MOT time.

No problems with my sticky plate either smile

Cool will look into the hood cleaner.

I'm not great with cars but bought this to learn the basics! With the plugs whats the best ones to go for and do they just screw in??

A guess a Haynes manual would be a good start for me!!

Will pop some pics of the car up tonight when i get home.

As above it'll be a "show plate" only.wink But I have one on mine. Standard font. Standard size. And reflective. The cops used mine to call in the plate after an accident. Couldn't care less that it wasn't a hard plastic plate. All he cared about was that it looked correct size/space etc and he could easily read it.
