It's an 04 MX5 1.8, I think it's done 26,000 miles silver at a dealer. I've just had a cursory look round it a few little stone chips on the front and it's up for £9k. Am I being tight or is this abit pricey?? I do like the number plate on it-matches my initials!!! The interior was I think half leather or something-the hood looked ok. Any ideas????

It sounds reasonable to be honest. If it's a nice car (and you sound like you want it) go and test drive it. The mileage is about what mine was (being a slightly older car, with proportionally more miles) and I felt I got a good deal.

Yes! I took it out with the top down and I have to say I'm impressed. The engine was good, the gearbox felt smooth but here's the thing-no C.D player only radio and cassette player. I just sort of assumed it would have one, being only four years old! The only niggle is there seems to be some surface corrosion in the engine bay-on the bar below the radiator(not sure what it is!!!) particularly and the rear box of the exhaust-is this acceptable for a car that age with 26000 miles on the clock??? I think it has been standing around for a while also. I have to decide tonight.......Decisions,decisions.....

That sounds like top money. I think in the current market it should be priced much lower if they want it to shift. Especially if it is not a sport with mohair hood.

The price had gone down by £500 when I took it out and I've got a car to part ex so it works out at about £7500.

The "bar below the radiator" is probably the front anti-roll-bar. If there is rust on that it won't cause any problems at all. I think it's about 15mm think so it would have to rust REALLY badly for it to be affected. As for rust on the back box - that's normal. Even with a stainless box you get what looks like corrosion on the back box.

yes Mine's on '03' with just 30,000 on the clock and the rear box had corroded that badly, that it only took one 'spirited' PH hoon and the thing detached completely and was hanging on by the rubber mounts.

Look at it as an excuse to fit a Larini. thumbup

Hahahahahaha!!!!!! I went and bought it! I'm due to pick it up in 2 weeks time and I'm so excited I can't wait! I would like to thank everyone for the help and advice that has been given-just another question, what material are the hoods made out of? Some of the older cars had a shinier sort of leather looking material, the one I bought has got a different almost canvas look to it. How is the best way to clean it without damaging it? Thats 2 questions I know! Thanks again fellow MX5 Owners!!!

nice one!!! biggrin

as for the hood they are generally vinyl (plasticky) or mohair (fabricky) - i don't know how to look after a mohair hood but at least you'll know what to call it now smile

remember to get some piccies up when it's on your driveway smile

Congrats! You'll love it!

The hood sounds the same as mine, which is heavy duty canvas. Just use a proprietary cleaner and protector from the likes of Auto-glym etc.

Thanks! I am soooo looking forward to it! Another question-in the boot there is a rectangular cubby hole on the left, what is it for? My other half told me it was for my heated rollers-surely it would melt???!!! silly
