If I went looking for an MX5 what should I look Out for

The choice is for the wife and If all things were equal I'd most likely buy an MGF, but the head (and almost everyone apart from diehard MGF owners) says Steer clear of the Rover build problems.

So say I went looking for an MX5 what should I look out for ?

with a budget which could go from £1500 to £2500 (and I might be able to stretch that again if there was some good reason to.

I looked at a photo of an MGF engine bay, and thought that would be hard to spot a gap big enough for my big fat hands.
