I've currently got a pair of fairly chavvy looking front fogs on my MK1, I was thinking of changing these for ones that fit into the corners of the grill more.
Maybe a bit like these... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-FIESTA-MK4-FRONT-FOG-LA...

Has anyone fitted any lights that fit into the corners of the grill, or know if these will fit?

Just get rid. You don't need them.

I agree with that. I had front fogs on a Focus and hardly ever used them. I have certainly not missed them on the MX5.

I had just been thinking the other day I wouldn't mind some driving lights for when its dark enough that you want lights on to be seen, but not dark enough to want to pop the headlights up and slow the car down/chew more fuel than otherwise.

Problem is I just know if I go down that route I'll want to put some serious spots on it for night-time blasts... sillyidea

In my personal opinion, if it's dark enough for sidelights it's dark enough for headlights.

Legally, driving lights should be wired so that they can only come on when the headlights are on. Foglights can be switched on with sidelights but again, if the weather conditions are bad enough to need foglights then they are bad enough to need headlights.

Please don't be one of those knob-ends who drives around with fog-lights on all the time nono

How about replacing your sidelight bulbs with super bright LEDs?

Obviously in most circumstances if you feel you NEED light then it's a headlight job, but if you just want to be made more visible this cheap mod helps a great deal.

I always flick mine on on motorways etc, or when driving on the continent where daylight running lights might be compulsory. Using the LEDs avoids the fuel consumption penalties you suffer by popping your lights up (wind resistance).

E.g. the white versions of these:

(I suppose I'm responding more to GravelBen than ciderminx.)

There is absolutely NO danger of me being one of those who put them on for the sake of it. I get a bit of rage when i see fogs/driving lights on for no reason.
I already have the illuminating switch for the current ones, so no bother about the wiring, just wanted lights that looked a little less 'stick on'.

DtM, i've been getting on great thanks, she's awesome, like a road legal go kart. I'm a die hard topless chick too (aye aye!) If it's dry, the top is down. I keep pushing a bit more everytime i go around an island or corner to find the limits, but only lose the back end slightly if its wet, im obviously not trying hard enough!

MX5's are great! Already thinking of a 2nd one as a trackday car!

Edited to say, already got some fairly bright LED sides, although i think they're too blue to be legal....may have to change them

It's okay. I've found now if you flash any of the following:

1) fog light over-users
2) people who change lane without looking or indicating
3) people who don't realise on UK motorways you should move over to the left if you are overtaking

I have found that they accept their mistakes by giving the Nescafe shake or the two fingered salute.

I've always wondered about foglights.

In my 20-odd years of driving, I've only needed foglights twice. So I'd rather save the minimal weight hehe

I certainly appreciated decent spotlights at night when I had them on a previous car, but never been in fog where foglights would have benefitted over dipped beams. The one thing I've found them useful for (have factory foglights on the Legacy) is because they're mounted so low the shadows they cast make it easier to distinguish big bumps/potholes in rough roads at night. On the Legacy another light also shines out the side and comes on with the indicator to help see around corners.

Sorry to continue the slight O/Tness.

Are these really as easy to fit as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing the new one in?

Thanks

This is pretty much why i'd like to replace the ones i have. With them on you definitely have more of the road illuminated. I hate it when people have them on for no reason, i just like having as much light as possible when driving at night on rural roads.
