I was resigned to sending it off but will give this a try.
I've never heard of an M6 bolt- will Halfrauds have?

saw that for £25.00 but thought I would have a bash at it myself.
The screw cost £1.50 from Halfrauds, and the glue £2.50. Was a bit fiddly but done now.
Unbelievable the state of the screws - totally rusted through. Might put a new screw in the other one next week in case it rusts through on the m25 and not in my hand outside the house!

Same happened to mine - here's a tip - you know those long bolts used in all Ikea furniture ? The ones you often have a couple left over ? They fit a treat, and if you're really tight, you can clean and re-use the original nut too. Total cost to repair £0. I love MX5s.
Thats the sort of tip that appeals to me.Funnily enough I was outside in the garden last night and was eyeing up the screws that were holding together a bench - I thought they might do the trick.
I didn't put the spring thing back in, because it was rusted to buggery and I couldnt see any use for it. As long as the mirror stays on and folds thats good enough!
