a belt tensioning bolt just sheared!

i had a bit of a shock this evening when coming off a roundabout there was a massive bang (i thought i must have hit a big rock) and then a weird sound that increased with revs. on inspection it turned out that the bolt that holds the tensioner for the starter motor belt had sheared so there was no tension at all in the belt and it was rubbing on one of the pipes.

i was very lucky that i was able to scavenge a perfect replacement for the bolt at my destination which was not very far from where the bolt sheared.

has anyone else had bolts snap? and are any of them more prone to it than others as i wouldnt have thought it should happen very easily! or did i just have one dud bolt?
