Oil Consumption Mk1
Discussion
Nothing surfacing on a search but what do people average with oil use between service's ?
My son having recently got his Mk1 and having done his first 1700 miles in it found the dipstick well down and required 1.5 litres to the full mark.
It had been recently serviced and was full prior to him buying it, no external leaks underneath and the drive stays clean where he parks so it is only
going one place but alas it never smokes either.
Appreciate if anybody cares to comment or give experience of a similar trends
ETA Its done 98k

Hmm, mine alwayss does about a litre per 1000 miles (1.6 import) - no visible blue smoke and a v slight cam cover weep.
A think 1000miles per litre is seen as the 'reasonable' limit for oil consumption on any engine. Mine does spend most of its time in the upper rev ranges (B road and motorway to work...)

check the CAS seal at the back of the head, as a leak there isn't apparent and it has the ability to loose a fair bit from it, good news is its a 20 minute job and all of a £1.50 seal.
It shouldn't use any oil if its in good health, my turbo'd 60,000 mile Eunos the oil level doesn't ever move between oil changes. (It did alot before I changed the CAS oil seal)
