I can't seem to find any classic insurers who can undercut the every day quotes I'm getting from 'normo' companies.

Can anyone reccomend a company?

Lancaster was my cheapest at £900 p.a. yikes

I don't do much milage, either so a say, 4,000 mile limit, is not too much of a prob.

Help? Anyone?

Cheers,

Dan

Any reason you want to go classic? I've found limited-mileage policies with 'everyday' insurers much cheaper for the MX5.

If you've got something a bit out of the ordinary, then classic insurance might be a better bet price wise compared to the usual insurance players.

but im fairly sure that firebond has closed down so my insurance is actually being run by someone else now.

There's no specific reason why I want to go classic, I just thought it might be an easier way to go, given the age of the car and the fact that I'm being fcensoredked over insurance.

Don't bother mate. These cars are so common and are so often used as every-day drivers that the best insurance deals are the standard insurance policies. I had a 5k miles limited policy a year ago but went back to a normal unlimited insurance (both AON) as it was only about £10 more expensive.

I've got bog standard insurance through Privilege and it costs £208 - for me & Mrs. K, for business use, unlimited mileage, not garaged, etc, etc, etc

Try Hagerty.

I decided to insure one of my cars as a classic and they quoted circa £250 for the MX-5 or £200 for the Porsche. Needless to say the Porsche went on classic as quotes for everyday use were far higher than the '5.

The reason they gave for the Porsche being cheaper was simply that it's older. Unusual but fair enough!

Looking at the 2 posts above:
£250 for classic insurance compared to £208 for standard insurance.

Looks like standard insurance is the one to go for unless you get an agreed value policy (assuming your car is worth more than the book price).

Agreed, although bear in mind I'm a spring chicken at 23 so that classic quote was about half what I would pay for standard insurance. In my case it would have been worth it.

I ensured my old MX5 on a classic policy. £150 a year fully comp including track day cover. I was 28 at the time. It also had some suspension mods which were declared.

Think it was AON.
