Right the Mazda needs to go into the remedial work at a bodyshop soon. While it's there we're planning to get a couple of others bits and pieces sorted.

So primary reasons for it going in:

1. Fix the crash damage

While it's there i'm also going to get the following looked at:

2. Fix the two spots of rust that have appeared on the drivers side rear arch
3. Repair the damaged laquer on the passenger door

Basically get the bodywork in tip top condition for the summer. However what are people's views of "modifications" to MX5's (while it's in the bodyshop).

I'm thinking the following:

  • Get rid of the number plate plinth and front badge to give a smooth look
  • Fit either a square front plate to one side (or a stick on for the nose)
  • Fit a laguna front splitter - Like this
  • Fit clear side indicators/side reflectors
  • Paint the wheels black
Others bit to get done before the summer...

  • Oil change
  • Front discs/pads
  • Check out the knock on the right rear shock

No, it's not frowned upon - there's a whole website dedicated to little else here if you haven't come across it already and want some more ideas on popular mods.

Excellent. Normally I just get on and update my cars (clear side lights etc) but the MX5 is a bit of an icon!

1. Agree with this, I've removed the plate & plinth and am awaiting my sticky plate to be delivered from Craigsplates.
2. I personally think central plates look miles better than a square plate to one side, but each to their own!
3. MX5Parts do a proper Mazda lip spoiler for £220 plus delivery, looks the dogs!
4. I wanted to do this too but now I'm not so sure.
5. Rally sg!

MX5Parts also has a great offer on for a set of discs/pads at the moment. £60 for a set for the 1.6 and £80 for the 1.8.

The clear side indicators & side reflectors work particularly well on a Mk2.5 because it matches the chrome in the headlights, especially when matched with a stainless grille...

Well, they do cross-drilled and grooved ones for a few hundred pounds a set!

Which you don't need or want. Plain discs are fine, even on my car!

I think the cross drilled discs are mainly for show! (Unless you're going for a full AP setup or somesuch). Plain discs for me every time cos I'm a tight b***d

How easy was it to remove the orange backing from the front indicators?

I wouldn't mind these wheels either:

i bought the crystal clear indicator units as if you remove the orange you still get the ribbed look which i didn't want - but i think if you put the lights in the oven to soften the seal it's not too difficult although still a bit of a faff.

very nice looking wheels - rota's?

Do you mind me asking where you got them from? I'm going to have to get one replacement unit as it is so I might as well change both of them at the same time.

Yep the wheel's are rota's - A possible purchase after the wedding in the summer!

Just won a laguna front splitter for £26 (+ £8 delivery)...

Hopefully it will arrive before the car goes into the bodyshop on Saturday (that way I can get them to fit it).
