I was lucky enough to pick up a hard top at the weekend at a knock-down price (from an unlucky soul who'd crashed their 5).

Unfortunately, it is dark green, whereas my 5 is red.

I'm going to get it resprayed, but can't decide between red (probably dificult to match, right?) or black?

Or maybe even white?

although i'm not sure how this would look on a more standard car...

Anyone got any views / pictures of 5's with contrasting roofs?

I don't think white would look too hot on a standard (less Elan like) car.

Red or black would be fine, in fact I'd be more tempted by black on a red car as I like the roof/body contrast.

Contrasting colours work well on soft tops, but with hardtops I'd go for colour matched every single time. Doesn't look 'right' any other way imo

Colour matched, personally. Have a look in my profile for an example of one that is colour matched.

Munter, is your one loads of different colours, or do I need an eye test?

i did mine black as i could do it with a few cans of spray paint for less than £20. to do a proper colour match you'd probably looking at about 10x that.

Not a bad point actually. With black (as long as it isn't on black) there's no match to be made, so can be done cheaply. I suppose I'd consider that rather than an entire respray. I know they're rare, but unless you're getting an absolute steal on the hard top, I'd wait for one in the right colour. I sold my silver one for £300 (with the car)

Yes theres a few colours on my car. Even that hardtop go's from red on the sides to faded pink in the middle. hehe I'm just glad I didn't buy the car for it's looks!

Clearly! Although perhaps somewhat sensibly? I bought mine for the looks and it didn't turn out all that well. My red one turned out brilliant though.

Ah ok, that is insanely cheap. In good condition, they can go for up to £600. So, you've got yourself one for well under that even including the respray I'd imagine. smile

On Red a matching top looks suberb.

I have a metallic blue one and don't like them with a matching top so I'm about to spray one Satin Black - should look good IMO.
