other way around, better spec on the imports and less rust. Only downside is fractionally more insurance.

I'd agree.

Except for the insurance. I'm with Privilege and it's costing me £208, fully comp, for business use, unlimited miles, wife as named driver, parked on driveway, etc, etc, etc .....

Just go for the best car you can get for your budget. Don't let UK/Jap spec be an issue. Similarly. don't let mileage affect your decision because as long as it's been regularly serviced these engines can do +200k miles without much trouble.

very true, always better to go for a good condition car over all else. mk2's theres less benefit going for an import mind as LSD's etc can be found on uk cars unlike the mk1 situation where some of the toys are import only.

I went the other way.

Imports usually have a much higher spec - air con, electric mirrors/windows etc. I wanted a basic spec (minimal electronics) but did like things like leather etc so a UK car was better suited as anything imported with leather etc usually had lots of electronics.

Insurance. I tried pretty much *every* insurance company I could find. The cheapest insurance on an import for me was £688 fully comp. The cheapest insurance on a UK car weighed in at just £287 fully comp with the same excess and included business miles etc. Thats at 24 with 5 years NCB.
