Or at least I think/assume it is.

The car is stuck in gear and won't go into neutral.

It's been making faint squealing sounds for a while when depressing the clutch - but that stopped about a week ago. Then this morning, coming into work (fortunately just around the corner) it wouldn't go into neutral. So in 2nd gear I had to negotiate 4 sets of traffic lights, a roundabout and a tricky junction whilst running in 1st.

But I made it, with a skill of timing and dexterity (and peeing off the cars behind me), and just dumped it into the 1st parking spot at work (fortunately).

Time to call the AA!

Bugger.

The AA guy has been and says it's the clutch that's gone.

It squeals something rotten when the clutch is pressed and stinks like rotten fish frown

You sure its not the slave cyl. ?

Thats the usual suspect.

Check the fluid level. then get someone to work the clutch and see if the piston is moving (quick search will show you pics)

Only £15 odd too.

I've spoken to the guy at the garage where I dumped it.

The clutch is (in his own words) by far one of the most shagged he's ever seen. Also the sprigot bearings are shagged too - which he was going to replace as a matter of course.

Everything else was fine and dandy - so I stand corrected.

I'll have it back Tuesday.

He knew the area where it 'disintegrated' and he was astounded I got it into work. I guess I totally shagged it at that point. It was really stinking at that point.

Anyway - it'll be fixed - so I'm happy - and by someone I trust thumbup
