Can anyone tell me how much a cambelt change is at a) a main stealer and b)a backstreet garage.

Its due at 60k is this right? Some dude is interested in my Phoenix and is asking about belts, I was going to run her without changing the belt just yet call me a tightwad.

Cheers.

Think it's due ay 54K. I had mine done at 64K as I had only just bought it and there was no evidence of it being changed.

Was the only thing I have done at Mazda. I bought the car as a project to learn on but this needed doing soon and was beyond my skills at the moment. Cost £180 last month (belt £35, 1.8 hours labour £118) plus VAT.

The Mazda engine is actually a non-interference engine (at least on the Mk.1) so it's not the end of the world if it does break usually.

Having said that, as MX-5s tend to be lower mileage than mainstream cars (summer "toy&quotwink it's worth doing them on age. My car only has 50k miles on it but is 14 years old so I changed it as a matter of course.

If you are in the south east Mark @ Freelance Mazda in Chatham will do a full cambelt service for 160+vat iirc.
