Ever since I have had my car the electric windows have been very, very slow to move. Especially down. Sometimes they were even getting stuck half way, not good!!
I had tried everything to speed them up, squirted WD-40 down the window runners, which made them worse.........took off the door panels and greased EVERYTHING, which worked for a few weeks, then back to their worst.

So a few weeks back while doing a deep clean on one of our weights machines in work I found that our supplies had given us the wrong aerosol of lubricant for the chains etc. It said on the tin it could be used for releasing sticky mechanisms and for waterproofing vinyl, so being intrigued and very bored of cleaning a concept 2 rower, I decided to see how it would affect my windows.

I wound the windows all the way down, which by now needed to be pushed by hand....and then squirted some of the can down the black rubber/plastic runners for the windows and then tried the window switch........

What a difference!!! Both windows moved up and down without any hinderance....and have remained that way for 4 weeks!!! Without me re-applying the aerosol since. It is as if I have bought two new motors for the windows, the change is that dramatic.

I am going into work later and will pick up one of the cans and get hold of the contact details for the company, so if anyone else is having trouble with the windows this could be an easy cheap fix!!

It sounds like the PTFE based lube I use on my windows. Great stuff - lasts for months, doesn't attack the rubber, lubricates superbly.

Mine is a 3-In-One product (part of the WD40 group).

I think they do a silicone based spray lube too that could be just as good (it may be a silicone based lube you used).

Did not have the name of the product to hand, when we order them in, only the boxes have the names on as the cans are colour coded and the boxes were recycled before I got to check the name. (Cuts down on the packaging costs etc). I have a new order arriving today thats why I will check the name of the product and get contact details fo anyone that wants it.

Definitely would like to know what it is called. My driver’s side window is very slow and I didn't fancy taking the door to bits to grease the inside. (at least not whilst its so cold and miserable out there)

I use the 3-in-1 silicone spray for loads of that sort of stuff, it's brilliant!

I use similar sounding stuff called 'Vinyl and Rubber lubricant' or something similar. It's Halfords own brand stuff in a yellow can. Works well...
