Well did a trackday at bedford yesterday. Excellent fun!

However the car has sustained some mechanical problems.

When I spin the rear wheels theres a lot of drag, to the extent that they stop as soon as I stop pushing the tyre. This affects both rears. Now the calipers were replaced in 2006 so they shouldn't be sticking.... anything else that could be causing them problems. I'm thinking check the diff as well.

The front squeel appears to be the pad being totally worn down.... Thats 2 trackdays and 10,000 miles on greenstuff pads.

All things considered, your front pads haven't really disgraced themselves. I mean, 2 trackdays and 10k road miles isn't too bad. I had greenstuff on my kit-car a few years back and didn't really think they were that good or that bad. I've got standard OE pads and discs on my MX-5 at the moment. They have done about 10k gentle road driving and 1 day at Bedford. They are about half worn.

The only thing I can think of regarding the rotational resistance of your rear wheels is worn wheel bearings or thick diff oil. Otherwise, I am at a loss for an explaination.

Hope you get to the bottom of it.

just take the rear brakes off, remove the pads and calipers, clean them all up, clean and regrease the slider pins, put it back, re-adjust the handbrake thingy, bleed, and see if it's still dragging.

bedford nailed my ebc blackstuff pads, totally melted the fronts (inside pad each side) until i was braking on the rivets. not fun driving back through milton keynes. since changed to Mintex M1144 and not looked back.

Before the next trackday I'm tempted to get the Mintex M1144 pads.

Regarding the rears, when it has it's next service (100,000 miles!), I think I'll get the garage to strip the brakes down as you suggest, but also see if I can get a torsen LSD out of an import and stick that in at the same time, or at least change the diff oil...which I think is probably the original stuff....
