I suspect part of my clutch might be on it's way out.

Whilst the clutch itself is fine - no slipping or dragging, and there's no play on the clutch pedal at all, it makes a squealing sound when I start her it up and press the clutch down. It does it for a few minutes until it warms up and then it's fine after that. This has been going on for about a week or so now.

And in the past 2-3 days there's an occasional whistling-type sound when idling (when warm), which then goes when I press the clutch.

I'm guessing it might be the release bearing. Can anyone confirm? And is it an immediate replacement task, or is it OK for a few more weeks?

Sounds like the thrust bearing might be a bit drying up , check the fluid levels on your clutch ,

as for the squealing , its going to be either one of the drive belts for all your posh gubbins you have on your jap spec 5 mate

Mines squealing like a pig on its honeymoon but as its in the bodyshop and ive got a bad back/neck i cant really do a lot with it at the mo , got the spare belt though hehe

Cheers for that Denny.

I'll check the levels on the clutch. I should also say that the squealing is also coming from the cluch area - it's not a drive-belt issue. I'm guessing related to the release bearing as it squeals as soon as I press the clutch.

Hope your back get's better - thats no fun at all ..... mind you .... depends on how you put it out to start with wink

Hmm, I'd get a look at it. Parts wise a release bearing is a few quid. If it goes it'll take the diaphragm spring out on the clutch too, and may even mash the release fork up in the process.

Had one go on a car a few years ago, but I guess if you've got the gearbox off you may as well replace the clutch anyway...

Thanks Fran. Yeah - If everything is coming off then I'd take the opportunity to upgrade the clutch anyway.

Just hope it lasts for the weekend (PH sunday service). Won't get a chance to look at it until next week!

So.

If I get a whistly/squeaky noise (very quiet) when I depress or release the clutch, what's that all about then?

Sorry for jumping in and contributing bvgger-all.
