It sounds as if your sills are full of rain water!! Take a look under the sills and you ahould have tiny little drain holes, they are probably full of gunk and blocked up. Just get out something like a small screwdriver and clean out the holes, all the water should then drain away.

If it's anything like the Mk1, the holes are only small (hence why they get blocked).

They sit in the seam between two sheets of metal at the lowest point of the sill IIRC.

Well that sounds like your doors are full of water as well if the speakers have gone bad, or at least it's leaking in there as well.

Here's a link to the MX5 OC forum sticky on the subject;

Water isn't going to migrate from the sills to the door. I think you have 2 seperate issues. The bottom of the door should have some drain holes as well.

It's a common problem (the sills) and easily sortable. Just find the drain holes, have a poke around with a piece of wire and then spray in some waxoyl or similar from the top once they've drained and dried.

Thanks for that,it says that there are 4 drain holes on each side, well i looked and the holes are so small, and they say you can widen them but i will try it if not i will get my mechanic to have a look.

I had the same problem on my Mark 1 over the last couple of weeks.

The passenger side sill drain was blocked. A paper clip was ideal to clear the block.
However the Miata.net site said I should have 4 each side, but I can only get my clip in to 2 each side which makes me think the other 2 (1 each side) are either not there or completely blocked.

I'll be having another go this week when its a bit lighter.
