My 10th Anniversary MX5 is currently at the garage having its gearbox repaired. I thought it might need a bit of oil as it had gone very notchy and clunky over the past 2 weeks. Turns out when the oil was drained it was full of metal, and the bearing has dropped in and been mashed.
Now, as my car is under 'Platinum warranty' (I can hear the "dream on" already) with JCT 600 where the car was purchased until January,I would like to think this is not 'fair wear and tear' (which is the route the slippery bastards will take without fail) and is a mechanical failure.
I would very much appreciate anyone coming forward with advice, or similar stories if this is a regular occurance. It has done 42,000 miles and has a full service history - all Mazda to Jan 2007. I thought the engines and gearboxes in MX5's were 'bulletproof', and I need all the ammo I can to get my point across that this should not have happened!!
Cheers all. Dave.

I've never hear of a non abused turbo gearbox or diff failing. My 97 mk1 has 250+bhp going throught it ands perfectly happy.
