It should be the 116 BHP engine if it's a UK model. The 90 BHP engine was fitted from 94 onwards in UK Cars

Good info here:

An L reg is a 1993 prefix so you should have a 116 BHP engine, also check the VIN Plate for the following:

The B6 81kW (116BHP) engine was dropped in 94, and returned with 66 kW (90BHP) in '95 from serial number 200 001.

So check your serial no on the Vin plate which is situated (unless it has been removed for a vehicle re-spray) close to the door lock latch when you open the right door.

So if your serial no is less than 200 001 you have a 116 BHP engine.

Enjoy the MX5

Lucky escape - deposit should be "subject to proper checks" etc. - did you get a receipt? I always give a cheque for a deposit, then you can at least cancel it.

Nice one, is it a 1.6 or 1.8?

Would be nice to see some photos of it if you get a chance?

One of them's probably got the spec listed on it.

Multiply by 5/8 to convert to miles - about 110k miles I think.

Depends how the speedo has been converted to miles. If it's just a new face on the old speedo then yes, just multiply by 5/8. However, if it's had a converter fitted to the back of the gauge then the oddometer will be showing miles so you'll need to know how many miles it had done when the converter was fitted and multiply that by 5/8 then add the remainder.
