Whistling clutch - is it on its way out?

I have notice a whistling noise occassionally when I depress the clutch pedal.

The noise seems to be coming from the footwell.

No other symptoms of clutch failure - but is it on its way out?

No. No problems at all, just this sad little whistling as I push the pedal down.

That sounds more like a thrust-bearing. It can be a problem if it seizes but they usually go on for years.
My old Mk1 made the same noise (assuming it IS the same noise) for about 3 years and was still doing it when I sold it.

Easy & cheap if you can get a thrust-bearing and do it yourself.
However, the MX-5 gearbox is a bit of a bugger to remove so you'd be better off replacing the whole clutch rather than just the bearing as you wouldn't want to do it again a year later.

Cheers MX-5 Lazza. Think I'll put up with it until funds permit clutch replacement ie when Mrs Rammage stops spending my money on shoes and lunches ie just about the time when hell freezes over.
