What's a Mk.1 facelift?

I know there were a few mechanical changes (1.8 brought in, 1.6 detuned, different seatbelt mounting points) but never noticed any obvious outside differences...

I think mines a facelift , not sure , could be 1995 onwards when side impact beams and other odds and sods were added , still think the mk1 is the bestest looking out if the lot tongue out

Although I have a mk2.5, I have to admit that the mk1 is the best looking of all the generations. There is something about the clean simplicity of the lines and pop-up headlights that just looks so good.

Edited to say that my ultimate mx-5 would combine the looks and handling of the of the mk1 with the saftey features of the mk3 and the engine from the MPS range (2.3DI turbo 250ish bhp)....

You are both so right, easily the best looking. And you can't buy new cars with pop-up headlamps anymore.

What do you think of the new one?
