Eunos 1.6 - juddering when accelerating
Discussion
My wife has a 1993 Eunos Roadster,,,
After changing down a gear, the car will judder when the throttle is applied.
The local garage say that this is due to the rocker-cover gasket leaking oil which allows an accumulation of oil in the spark-plug wells, thereby fouling the plugs and leads.
They are recommending that the gasket be replaced along with the leads and plugs. They are quoting about £250 for the work due to the labour involved with cleaning the oil out of the spark-plug wells before taking the plugs themselves out.
I reckon the parts should cost no more than £50 from mx5parts, so IF this is the likely cause, I'm sure I could do the work myself.
Any thoughts?

Rocker cover gasket is cheap to buy (MX5Parts) and easy to replace.
If there really is oil in your plug-holes then and clean out what you can with paper towels then do as Griff says and remove the plugs to drain into the chambers, it'll burn off very quickly.
£150 is a real rip-off - you could get the head gasket replaced for that price!

What has already been said. I used to suffer with plug 4 gaining oil due to the cam cover gasket design. Run some silicone around the head then put the cam cover back on, with new gasket. Never had a problem since! I have a new decent set of red 8mm silicone HT leads that I bought in preperation for my france drive, but didnt use them. Email me if you are interested.
