I have ordered

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...

2 of these

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...

one of these

and have a mate with a workshop who reckons they can be changed in 30mins.

Being less than mechanically minded is there anything I should know/tell him before I let him tinker?

Just make sure he really does know how to do them first.

They aren't like the front pads i.e. you don't push the piston in using a piston clamp, do that and you'll break the handbrake, there is a 4mm Allen head grub screw behind a 14mm blanking plug at the back of the calliper which you use to wind the piston in. Once the new pads are in place wind the screw back in so the pads lock against the disk, then wind it back out 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
If the handbrake needs adjusting after this do it at the handbrake end of the cable.

Oh, and when you do the rear pads remember to do it with the handbrake off wink

Just what I was after that. Cheers.

It seems you are very knowledgable on all things '5, so I ask you one more question!

Do you know the right type/mix of anti freeze to use in my MK1? I've heard tell there are different types and i'm going to get this topped up and get him to also replace my fuel filter whilst his at it...

His a good lad and knows his stuff but I thought it best to check before we went ahead...

I've had MX-5's since 1998 when I bought a new Mk1 Berkeley so I have a fair bit of experience but there are some large holes in my knowledge and you just homed right in on one of them laugh

All I do know is that I'm replacing my rad soon and will be using a 25% mix using Comma Xtreme Green but that's on a supercharged car that is used on track-days and parked overnight in a garage so rarely has to worry about frost. I'm not sure what the usual recommended mix should be.

Cool. I'll have to do some digging then. Thanks for your help!
