guess it had to happen in the end. roof flashed, stereo nicked and boost controller gone with it, and a big hole in the middle of my dash.

at least they didn't open the boot from inside and nick my laptop and phone i guess...

Hence one of the reasons why CCs are popular.

I don't suppose you'll get much from the Police.

Are you insured for it? (If you don't ind me asking?)

done in reading town.

don't know if i have insurance for it, but i probably wouldn't claim anyway, not worth the hassle. i can probably get it all sorted for £400 (£500 if i put a boost controller back in) if i do it all myself. not even bothered going to the police as they wouldn't do anything except give me an incident number

Annoying, isn't it? Almost makes me want to put a note in the car that says "If you must break in, please just break the window as it's cheaper to replace than the roof".

I get around this by leaving the door open (unlocked) and the car empty at all times. It is Cat 1 immobilised so hopefully I'll always come back to find it were I left it!

Interestingly, has anyone disconnected the boot release lever for extra security? I've toyed with doing it but haven't got round to it yet.

i recently installed the boot release so i didn't have to turn the engine off to open it!! biggrin

but yeah it is annoying. they were quite careful not to cut a massive hole in the roof but it's an L shape so still probably too difficult to repair...

Why do they slash the roof... It's as quick to get in a MKI the secret way without damaging the vehicle rage

Sorry to hear about that - yes, pondlife alas.

My early (1990) mk 1 doesn't have the boot release, does feel like a very secure boot for this reason.

Good luck with the repairs - do report it though, at least then it'll appear in the stats, rather than those with political interests saying later on 'look how vehicle crime is falling'

Also, since it is taken with such low priority by the police, you'll find it a very quick telephone call to report it....

yikes Secret way!?!?

Mind you, the door locks feel incredible insecure anyway, I don't leave anything of value in it (especially as at the moment I have to leave it parked on the road frown

Was the face on the stereo? Last time I left a car in a really really dodgy area (parked in Hackney on a Saturday night outside the church in the little park where all the winos and crackheads hang around eek) I completely emptied the car of everything and left the glovebox open...

On a serious note - DO report it to the fuzz so that at the very least it shows in the vehicle crime stats. Don't want that arse Brown telling everybody vehicle crime is down rolleyes

Must admit this is why I use a disclok - so even idiots can see it.

And leave nothing on show, face off stereo etc.

I used to have a microwave alarm with perimeter detection but frequently kids would set it off.

I didn't lock the rear doors of my van on the basis that I never left anything in it, yet criminal geniuses caused several hundred pounds of damage to the side door and didn't even look in through the back windows or try the (open) rear doors !
