I'm a 20 year old male who's driving history has thus far been restricted by an over-protective father (who himself refuses to drive a car with less than 300BHP..), and I'm thinking of buying a pretty tired MK1 MX-5 and nursing it back to health. This would be my first sports car, and as a student, would involve spending every penny I have. The cars I've been looking at have all done around 100,000 miles, but seem to be mechanically sound. I'm no mechanic, the most ive ever done to a car is change a set of brakes and basic service stuff - but i know the basics, I'm eager to learn and I have a lot of tools!
So does this sound like a reasonable thing for a guy with no money and no experience to do? (Please say yes..)

I've looked into it, I could get ten grand if I let them cut off my little toe and put it back on again
Really? Got a number? Seriously though, do it. They're so easy to work on, typical Japanese reliability so you won't actually *have* to work on it that much, but will probably want to when you see all the tweaks and touches you can do. And they're awesome little cars.
