Replacement soft-top options...
Discussion
Hi all,
recent biblical rainfall has shown me that the soft-top on my car leaks a little. As the rain shows no sign of stopping (and I think I just saw Noah's Ark float by the window) I thought I'd research some replacement options. Think I'd sooner replace the whole thing as it's looking a bit tatty anyway.
I found a selection of replacement MX-5 soft-tops on eBay (example here).
I'm sure some of you must have fitted some of these?
If so, which is the best quality to go for? Any recommendations?
How easy is it?
Any advice / comments appreciated
cheers!

I see you're in Wiltshire. A load of the local 5 enthusiasts there (Moonrakers) recommend Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea - 250 quid fitted for a mohair hood. Excellent value and thats where I'll be going when I do mine later this summer.
Apparently fitting it yourself is rather fiddly!
That said, I was looking the other day and Dandycars were selling their hoods for 140 with a fitting DVD included.
I can't comment on their roofs per se but I do know there cars are immaculately prepared for sale, if expensive.

I can recommend this lot:

Had a new mohair hood fitted there last year for just over £300 all in IIRC. Time wise, it took the guy about an hour I think, but he did say he normally did it a lot quicker when he had his dad there to help him...

Can't recommend this guy enough - http://www.jimparts.co.uk/
Did a fantastic job on mine £300 for mohair IIRC

got my mohair from Carhoods Direct: http://www.carhoodsdirect.com/catalogue.php?view=c...
It is quite easy to do yourself (tho you may need a extra pair of hands or two at the end)
It did take me a few hours over a novembers evening (not the best time!) but i did strip more of the car down than i needed to, and i needed to patch up the rain rail which had a few cracks in it (the rain rail runs round the base of the roof from door pillar, un the rear window to other door))

If mine ever needs replacing I think I'll go for a Mk.2 frame/hood - that way I get a glass heated screen and don't have to unzip the rear panel!
I bought a MK2.5 mohair hood off Ebay, they fit straight to a MK1 frame, a kit is sold (a bit of webbing) to make the folding suit the glass window.Gassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
