Went to see a BRG model in Herts/Beds border today - confirmed that I definitely want one! I was hoping this garage would let me have a spin so I further confirm this, but he would not. Apparently he sells cars subject to a test drive but does not allow it if you don't want to buy.

Anyway, it was nice - P reg, BRG with decent body work, decent hood, 82k on the clock, thisnk it was the iS model as had the airbad steering wheel.

BUT - he knew nothing about the car. I asked him whether it was an import, whether it has the cambelts done at 60k and how many owners. He knew nothing. The history was inconclusive and sparse. So at £3,995 I walked away very fast - impressed with myself actually!smokin

Now I am in limbo as there are few trade garages near me to take one out for a spin (I don't have comp insurance so can't drive a private sale), and in any case, all the models I am interested in are bloody miles away - Worcester, Yorkshire, North Devon, Solihull! I am near Londonrage

B*ll*cks, will I miss the summer if I can't find the one for me?

With regards to insurance, all you need to do is let your insurance company know that you are going to be test driving a car (you'll need to give them the car details) and they should cover you. Probably won't even cost you anything.

Dandycars are about an hour or so away in Ilford.
They do have a good stock level.

Cheers, seen a few of their cars on Autotrader. However, if I can set up my insurance to cover me on private test drives I have identified a few that I want to look at! You guys hopefully will be saying ello to a new snotrocket owner soon enough!

Hopefully mine is the one in Solihull.

Its less than 2 hours away, I know more than most dealers / mechanics about MX5's and will happily bore you to death on them, I've owned them over 10 years, run the West mids area of the club and run SC'd and turbo versions.

Mine has UK and Jap history and I'll let anyone test drive - just if you crash it you've bought it.

It is always worth travelling to get the right car (even if its not mine)

See you about 4.30 then...

smile

also worth knowing:
www.dayinsure.com

instant cover. very good for private sales.

however the salesman shuld be shot if he dosnt let you have a test drive.. no one will buy a car like that with out knowing how they drive. he shoudl be sacked
