Its very close to me, going to go see it this week. Not sure what model it is? Seems to have half leather, cabin braces, 1800cc, 1995 model. Is it an S-Special? Are these supposed to be one of the best mk1's?

I've spoke to the seller, he claims its 47k genuine miles.

No service History, but Imported in 2001, got all the docs, and MOTs since its been in the UK. Mileages seems very optimistic tot me, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. The fact he says its in miles, and the low number, suggests to me brand new UK spec clocks when it was imported.

Also, its got Chav lights and 17'' wheels, which makes me a little bit suspicious of any boy racer treatment/abuse, so will have to budget for replacing those.

Current car i bought with no Service History and got lucky, is this worth a gamble if it seems kosher?

Thing is, its pretty cheap. "2500, open to offers".

Fingers crossed....

Our 1.8 94 S-Special has front and rear spoilers.
Under bonnet brace, loads of under chassis bracing too.

I think ours was a bargain, bought it in 2005 for 3k

Well, if dandycars is right, I'm guessing its one of these

S-Special Type 2. Sounds good!

The S-Special was one of the sportier special editions released.

It's missing the rear spoiler of the S-Special 2.

Remember you'd have to budget for potential trouble through lack of care if it doesn't have any service history on top of what you've budgeted to put the lights and wheels back to normal.

I'd say it would be a bargain if it had some history and the correct features but as it is I'd tread carefully.

It could still be a bargain, just use some caution.

Course, I'm going to tread carefully on this one. The mileage for one seems questionable, but I guess I'll never know unless I see it, and it is close by.

I'll look out for any signs of a new bootlid/fillered holes aswell. Doesn't seem to match any other model specs though.

I'd still rather have a BRG/Tan one to be honest, but not many 1800cc V-specs about.
Like I say - No harm in looking.

We bought ours as a fresh import, it had no service history and was still in kms.
I got it checked over by an engineer (proper engineer, not a mechanic ) who picked up a couple of faults but they were minor. I was looking for a v-spec but the ones I found were either sheds or over priced.

£2.5k sounds OK if the car's in good nick. I doubt it's an S-Special from looking at it but I wouldn't let that put me off!

A lot of people swap the BBS alloys off and the boot spoiler's a delete option (mine doesn't have one and a lot of people left it off). But the steering wheel's not the Nardi one on every S-Spec I've seen either. Mine has steel kick plates too. Other identifiers are the yellow engine bay brace (though mine was removed at some point) and the Bilstein shocks which are yellow and easy to spot. Also, the sticker inside the driver's door will say if it's an S-Special.

Either way, if it's a decent car, it sounds good value. And a service history seems a rare commodity even on tidy Eunoses (is that the right plural?).

How many thave you had a chance to drive/look at so far?

I'd be very wary of anything questionable unless you're extremely well researched. Like you said - there are too many around to buy a dud.

Seen three, driven two. One was jsut shit. One was pretty good, but not the right spec/colour. 3rd one was right on paper, but was tatty. Theres no rush to buy at all.

Just this is very close so may aswell check it out.

Like I've said, Ideal is a tidy Import V-spec, 1.6 or 1.8 not really bothered.

Definitely - see as many as you can, even if you suspect it isn't suitable it may give you a pleasant surprise or add a bit of perspective to the others.

Good luck smile

Mine's a 1.8 S-Spec, most of the things they have are easily changeable which makes it hard to ID.

Rear spoiler (although was a delete option as said)
yellow engine brace
BBS wheels (changed on mine)
steering wheel (changed on mine)
Bilstein shocks (yellow)

There are other things but I can't remember them!

If there is a sticker on door shut it will say "S-SP" next to "Special Edition".

Mileage isn't unbelievable (mine has 80k km) but if the odometer reads in mph it suggests new clocks scratchchin

Mine was slightly neglected but it was localish and a 1.8 import in black which was what I wanted, and cheap too. I must admit I didn't look twice at anything with silly alloys or lexus lights paperbag

Me again... Well, I never got a chance to work out what it was. it just wasn't 'right'.... Made my excuses and left.

And then I started looking at 'grown up' cars, Even looked at a BMW Estate, and arranged to see a gti-6 on Thursday.

But I still can't help yearning after one, its got to the point now where im starting to get a little frustrated, I can't find anything that screams buy me, yet I have a big ( well, not THAT big!) wiodge of readies.

And its looking too late to get anything before Le mans, so the Dagenham special is getting checked over for the trip.

I'm like a girl... I cant decide.

(Maybe thats a sign though, In a roundabout kind of way... snigger..)
