Maybe it is not a technical term, but 95 MX5 feels a bit jiggy. 45K miles on the clock, but the suspension feels a little jiggly over uneven surfaces. Would Poly Bushes be a good fix? Don't know much about Poly Bushes are they suitable for a road car or are they just for track cars?

Or perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree and there is something else wrong with the suspension. I am comparing feel to a 91 Miata.

Cheers,
Smele.

might be worth a go , you are driving a 12 year old car , and rubber perishes , my snot rocket is a 95 car but with 131k on the clock , even so it feel s a damn site sharper and more "alive" than my 11 month old vectra which feels like a 100,000mile pakistani taxi

First thing to do is check the tyre pressures. On my Yank - mobile, which suffers poor chassis rigidity with the roof out, anything less than the correct pressure in the tyres has a marked effect on ride quality and 'jiggyness' - and when I say that it does seem on first impression to be suspension.

Try it - air is cheap!

Is it at the time, or after you've gone over a bump? It's my understanding that the shimmying you get after hitting a bump is generally chassis flex which can be addressed (if not eradicated) with additional bracing. My Hard Dog roll bar helped massively.

I think I've diagnosed the bushes as being shot on mine as on track the car quite distinctively takes a set before properly working the suspension. I was turning in, then having to back off a little as the back settled and then hold the line. So polys are going on.

It's not scuttle shake. There is some of that, but this is more. Tyres are ok for pressure and tracking has been done recently, but not to the lanny settings. It is more noticable on A roads, doing 40-60, on a rough ish surface, it feels just jiggly. In need of contant adjusting of the steering and if the suspension is just not working right.

Could be shocks I suppose, but it on big bumps it feels fine. This is why I thinking about bushes. Like someone said, rubber does perish. But are Poly Bushes any good? Better worse? Track cars only? Easy to fit? Make horrible noises? Thinking if I can, might be a nice job for the weekend, as a set of 32 bushes is about £50.

I've got a full set of Polybushes but have yet to fit them, do you need a press or is it ok to use a leather/Plastic mallet to avoid damage?

Apparently (I'm yet to fit mine) you can use a threaded rod with some nuts/sockets to force the old rubber bushes out. The polys tend to come in pieces that are easy to fit.

I'd be a little dubious of a full set of poly bushes for 50 quid. I've just paid 275 for a full set for mine. As with all these things there are differing opinions of which is best - some think the bush and collar surfaces should slip past each other to allow movement, others thing movement should be from the twisting of the bush material. I've gone with the recommendation of my preferred tuner (Phil @ P5 - SuperPro bushes).

I'm guessing its lowered...

swap the Bump stops for the soft polyurathane ones - available from Perf 5 for £45.

Makes a tremendous difference.

No, it is not lowered. Oh yes, that was £50 a corner, £200 total. Something more like your £250. Well, sounds like an idea for a weekend project, but not this weekend, as it is too wet outside to be working on the car. Need to get that triple garage for working on the car when it rains.

Bushes won't stop 'jigglyness'

I have had MX5's with polybushes and ones without, the difference is almost impossible to determine.

What is your ride height - wheel centre to lip of arch ?

What suspension and wheels are you on and what is the 91 on ?
