Just upgraded mk1 to turbo

very excited - so had to post a message

just had my mx5 breathed on:

1. Greddy Turbo + intercooler
2. Gaz suspension
3. new exhaust + decat

now 175Bhp ish apparantly ..

it's fab. when the turbo spools up, massive shove in the back and the car flies! also now handles properly - which is nice. All done by mx5mad... thanks folks..

for anybody out there thinking about it - go for it... awesome machine now..

think that the only thing that I'm not sure about is the loud exhaust - wife hates it - and I worry a little about turning into a chav!

Sounds great. Do you gte much turbo lag? One of my favourite thigns about the '5 is the throttle response allowing you to steer it on the throttle, fear I might have to go for a supercharger instead on those grounds.

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost?

the whole lot cost me 2800 quid - not cheap - but I think really worth it.

the turbo has a little lag - but nothing major. I have a 1.8T golf gti as well - and the turbo in that is definatley much more subtle than the mx5's ;-)

I was going to go for the supercharger - but the guys at mx5mad advised my that there were a couple of issues with the supercharger.

- apparantly there was a supply problem due to a couple of the manufacturing companies parting ways.
- also, if I wanted more power at some later date - there was little they could do. With the turbo, I can get a boost controller, new injectors etc and upgrade what I have now.

I was worried that the boost coming in would 'bite' on the corners - but it's actually not bad. I've just come back from my second walshy day and after thoroughly nailing around some corners - it's very controllable. And if you floor it down the straights, you get a satisfing little tail wiggle

I think that the only thing would be the exhaust. it is qute loud - I would recommend getiing all the work done but leave the standard exhaust on the car - if the power band is too narrow because of the back pressure - then go back and have it fitted..

all in all it's the nutz.. go for it..really sets the car off - also very happy to supply more details if you're interested
