Couple of q's:

Is it the same pipe on a Mk.1 whether 1.6 or 1.8?

Will the car still pass the MOT? I heard that Mk.1s generally pass the MOT when decatted anyway.

AFAIK the pipes are different, mine will pass emmissons without a cat, although it is not tested.

you don't need a cat on an imported car if it was made before 1996.

Just noticed yours is a '94 but for anyone considering a cat bypass on a '96 on 1.8 be aware the 'standard' part won't fit due to the cat being a different size.

There are three different cats fitted to the Mk1,
1.6 or 1.8 upto 1994. This cat is 370mm in length.
1.6 or 1.8 from 1994 to 1997. This cat is 440mm in length.
1.6 or 1.8 1997/8. This cat is 475mm in length. A cat replacement pipe is NOT available for this model.

Is there a specific date in 1996 that imports are excluded from cat requirements?

Mines a Nov'96 and of course I'd prefer it catless.

Just found the answer .....

Imports with no direct UK equivalent up to July '95 have a non-cat test.
