A big 'thank-you' to the Contributor to Society who cut a very neat hole in the vinyl hood of the wife's MX-5 in the middle of the night to unlock the door and rummage among the valuable things left inside (old scarf, dog-eared A-Z, rancid tube of sun cream).

Anyone able to recommend a reputable place in the South-East that does MX5 hood replacements?

Hoods from SFT MX5 used to be great - sold mine a while ago, and the they have changed hands, so not sure now. But you could get a cloth hood for the price of a vinyl one elsewhere.

I got a hood fitted from Hothoods on another mx5 about 3-4 years ago. Very nice guy in Essex, off the North Circ. His brother sells MX5's locally.

Another thumbs up for hothoods from me. Had a mohair hood fitted by them just over a year ago - great price, quality hood and a nice bloke who's very enthusiastic about 5's.

I got my Mohair with heated glass back window hood for £250 fitted! I'll dig the blokes number out. He is based in Wales and does a very very good job. Left early in the morning, got there at lunch, walked around swansea for a couple of hours and done

if your feeling upto DIY then Carhoods direct do a decent Mohair for £250 with a plastic back screen.

takes a few hours to do, but its easy enough.

A couple of things - mohair hoods look nice but if they are sitting outside all the time I gather they suffer (especially from bird shit etc.)

Also, AIUI, if you fit a Mk.2 roof you won't have to bother unzipping the window to drop it. If in the future mine needs doing I'll be going for a vinyl glass heated screened Mk.2 job smile

Dandy car sells them for similar prices as most people and supply a fitting instruction DVD. A friend has fitted his 2 months ago and he found it easy enough...

If other mentionned solutions aren't OK, you can always get a Practical Classic Car Magazine and check at the end, there are loads of adverts for new hoods...

Last thing, see the bright side, now, you can fit the real roof that suit your bodywork; ex: Back body with burgandy mohair biggrin
