Hi
Got new iPhone 16 and new iPad with USB connection
Obviously can’t connect to the ports in the centre console

What is the best cable to get?

Do I get a USB A with USB C cable and just use the centre console?

My concern with that is will it be faster charging or will it take ages to charge?

What other options are there?

I know there’s a 12 V connection in the passenger foot well is it worth connecting anything there?

I’d like a cable so I can charge my phone and iPad

But I’m thinking MagSafe might be useful as well, again I’m looking at faster charge rather than it taking ages

Any recommendations or suggestions on what is best set up to do/use

TIA

Im no expert on charging speeds with Iphones sorry but maybe a 12 volt to usb c adapter in the footwell would make most sense?
Amazon sell the Anker brand which i find to be the best of the cheaper stuff on there, not sure if you can get a dual type c one but they certainly have dual ones available.

What are the output specs of the USB A ports in your car? Usually the charging power on these is a fair bit weaker that USB C.

You want 30w to max out the charging rates in your devices, which means USB C to USB C charging.

20w will also be quick.

If they are weak, like 12w, you can always get a 12v cigarette lighter port.

Something like the below will allow you to charge both devices at top speed:

I can’t seem to find anything I have 2024 ND Homura RF, preface lift model. I’ve checked the MX5 manual online and it doesn’t give you the specification on the USB port

Found this online, but I’m not sure how accurate it is

The Mazda MX-5 ND Homura 2024's USB-A port likely supports the standard 5V/2.4A output, which translates to 12 watts of power, according to Green 4 Motor Company. This is a common charging standard for USB ports in vehicles

Yah, thats pretty standard for USB A. 12w won t allow fast charging. Generally starts at 18w plus.

The below is a bit cheaper. It has a lower total power output than the one I post above, but it will still allow fast charging for both your devices at the same time.

Just pay heed to the charging diagram on the page, to see which ports to plug in your devices.

Hi
Sorry for the delay in coming back to you
So of the two you have suggested this one and the one above which is the best overall? Like you say there’s quite a price difference is it worth getting the more expensive option? What would be the benefit of getting that over this one that is cheaper?
Thanks

The more expensive one has a lot more power, but your iPad and phone won’t be able to draw down that power, whereas a laptop could.

The cheaper one will provide the same performance for your use case.
