I am considering this car, it’s not local to me so if anyone can have a gander that would be great.

Otherwise any thoughts - BN 69 VBV

Thanks

It's very orange. It's 20 minutes from me. I'm busy all weekend but could pop over on Monday and have a look. Anything in particular you want checking? (I'm not a mechanic or a marque expert but I have two eyes and I'm happy to ask questions of the young thruster in the shiny suit and brown shoes.)

Yes please. I haven’t bought a car in 15 years, so normal stuff:

1. Tires tread depth
2. Service history
3. Condition of bodywork and alloys
4. Condition of seat bolsters as 5hey wear quickly
5. Two cup holders
6. Service history ( when and if discs and pads were replaced)
7. Does it have the original gift pack?
8. Is the underside of the car really rusty, some are very bad
9. Is the hood fraying near where it touches the hoops at the rear
10. Diff and gearbox oil changed
11. All keys -2?
12.Any rust on the window frames?
13. Window regulators are not noisy
14. Anything else you think lol

I shall try and drop you an email, can’t but feel free to drop me one

Cheers

Am I wrong for telling you to walk away from this?

The fact that it has taken an MOT tester to mention the oil level is low, is something that would worry me.

since when do MOT testers check oil levels?

They don't and that is what would worry me.

Possibly a warning light on the dash and a friendly reminder.

Having bought a 2019 RF earlier this year, my thoughts are that you can certainly get a lower mile example for that sort of money. I paid considerably less for a Soul Red with 38000 on the clock.

Orange is obviously an acquired taste and not mine and there are no bright colours on the ND bar the Soul Red so perhaps the orange commands a premium, being an anniversary edition.

Wipers are cheap and simple enough to replace, the rear discs corrode like hell but are also easily and cheaply replaced.

For a 2019 2.0, I'd be looking at around £17k and under 20000 miles. You'd be surprised just how many of these cars are very low mileage, being fairly impractical.

Look for a reversing camera which I thought they all had but don't and check the front as they really do attract stone chips. The finish is all fairly thin so check for surface rust and check the drains.

Sounds unloved to me.

Worn bushes on a 32k car - i've run cars from zero to 125k+ and not needed to replace bushes.

It's a mx5 thing apparently the bushes wear. I think I will just wait for the right car to come along lol but I do want the orange one lol

Yup rear spherical bushes going are almost a given on the ND.
Shame about the oil level advisory on that one, don’t blame you for being concerned.

Although I am not a big fan of the soul red

That's an ND2 with the 182hp 2.0 that revs to 7500rpm and has the telescopic steering column. It will also have the 17" wheels, brace, Bilsteins and LSD the 1.5 lacks.

Not sure about the tan interior with the red though. Navy mica would have been my second choice and I've seen a black one with a burgundy interior.

5 year car with 32000 miles £18k
1 year old 2.0 exclusive line 8000miles £22.2k still 2 years warranty.

Others available around a similar price.
Must be worth spending a small amount more for a much newer car.

Hi Andrew, you are right, I was hoping the 2018/19 would be closer to £15k and I am stretching to get to £17k.

Food for thought thanks

Be patient and you should be able to buy a ND2 2 litre for under 15k with less than 40.000 miles. Best time to buy, pricewise, is the next month or two. They were definiely available this time last year.
Happy hunting!

Patience is a virtue. They will appear as winter progresses or spring appears. I missed a 2019 Soul Red 2.0RF which came up at under 18k with 10000 on the clock. Sadly, I was on holiday and when I came back, the car was up for 20k at a Mazda dealer.

I text the dealer, trying to find a compromise price. He said they pad under 17k for the car and wouldn't go below 19.5.

I saw a blue 21 plate 2.0 come up for just over 18k, low miles. I bought my 2019 RF for just over 15k and a week later, saw a 10000 mile 2019 for around 19k.

Given the RF commanded a premium over the normal MX5, they ought to be cheaper.

Indeed, I will just wait and see what comes up. A few more months don't really matter
