Hi everyone -

Bought a lovely 2014 NC at the weekend. Came with two keys - one works fine. The other will lock / unlock doors from the fob - and turn ignition on, but will not start the car. The ‘padlock’ light flashes on the dash when the keys in the ignition - so seems it is not programmed to the car. I believe it might be a replacement key, as the seller said in the past a garage broke the key and gave them a replacement. I’ve also put a new battery in the key, just to rule that out.

Mazda want £150 to reprogramme the key - but feels a little steep. Anyone come across this before? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

If you have 2 keys, many cars can programme keys themselves I believe, You tube usually shows you how.

It's an easy DIY to programme the fob buttons, but if the transponder isn't being recognised (as in your case), that requires an auto-electrician with the right equipment. The difficult bit is finding someone who knows what they're doing - someone I took my car to ended up with two dead keys and had to give me a lift home while he worked on it overnight to fix his cock-up.
