New number, now not ULEZ compliant
Discussion
As it says . My bones are now struggling to let me get into my 2002 NB sport , a car I have had from new ., so it has to go
At present it had a MX51 personal plate from new , and is ULEZ compliant , if I retain the plate and get a replacement , the car becomes non compliant , and knowing TFL they will not change back to compliant

I don't really understand what you're saying. At present it had a MX51 personal plate from new , and is ULEZ compliant , if I retain the plate and get a replacement , the car becomes non compliant , and knowing TFL they will not change back to compliant
The car itself is what's compliant to the ULEZ rules, surely?
I put a personal plate on my car, and it shows as compliant still.

I have looked at car registrations on similar cars to ming , and none come up as compliant , so If i change my plate from a personal to a generic plate, the cars status appears to change to non compliant
I hope that is clearer
I've just checked a 2002 MX5 Sport using a registration number from a car advertised on Autotrader, and it shows as compliant.I hope that is clearer
If your car is compliant, I can see how there may be an issue with it not properly registering as compliant after the plate change, but that appears to be due to the various systems/databases needing to catch up with each other, it shouldn't change the compliance, just need some admin to get fixed?
Also, what is it you're doing, selling the NB and changing to a different car?
Isn't it whether putting your plate on the replacement affects its status the key question?
Cars of that age are a bit random as to whether they show as ULEZ compliant, even if technically they are. Some need a Certificate of Compliance from the manufacturer to get the exemption applied.
Sometimes changing the reg plate will cock up the record, and a car that was compliant no longer shows as it is. This can usually be corrected, it's just the 'system' doesn't always work automatically when the plate is changed.
As such, I see the OP's concern, but it should be something that can fixed if it does go wrong.

TBH that just does not make sense , I looked ar acouple of specilists MX5 dealers and the the cars they have on their pages come up as non compliant , I suppose I am going to have to. take pot luck, and insist the status re ULEZ remains. The reason this is important to me . is to be able to sell a ULEZ compliant car is going to be easier
I found this, which may help
https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-...
"When a registration is transferred from a non-compliant to a compliant vehicle there can be a short period in which our compliance checker can give the incorrect result. This is because after the motorist has updated the DVLA of the change it will not be updated on our compliance checker until the next monthly update occurs.
If a motorist queries this we simply ask for evidence that the registration is now being displayed on a compliant vehicle and we update our records.
We would also encourage drivers to check our vehicle checker after they have swapped a private number plate. Any penalties issued in these circumstances would also be cancelled."
