NC disappointing gear shift feel
Discussion
Hi folks
Tried an NC today for the first time, overall Iiked it but one thing stood out - the gear shift.
I had an NB and the shift was amazing, so tight and rifle bolt like, it's still the best shift of any car I've had.
I was expecting similar from the NC but no... its not that it was bad, it was merely 'good'. My main issue is it just felt very light compared to the NB.
To describe it, I'd say the NB shifter feels like it's made of cast iron and the NC plastic.
Would be interested to hear thoughts from others who have tried both?

This might give you some ideas: http://www.duratecnc.co.uk/?page_id=348
I thought I'd update the thread as I now own an NC
The 1st one I tried was a 5 speed, I now own a 6 speed. I have to say I can't tell any difference in how they feel.
However after trying both I feel even more confident in saying that the NB is simply a better shifter for all the reasons I previously said.
Not slating the NC, I like it but thought this might be useful to others thinking about an NB or NC.

Most people (99%) put the wrong oil in the 6spd 'box and the gearshifter bush never even fitted properly from day one.
Easily and cheaply remedied.
Easily and cheaply provided that the wrong oil hasn't already worn out the synchros... speaking as someone with a 6 speed nc2 that appears to have been run on the wrong oil for an extended period, and is now probably going to need a rebuild to get it feeling half decent again Easily and cheaply remedied.

This I have an oil change every year on the box. Mine is a 6 speed Sport Tech. The change is never great but better with new oilEasily and cheaply remedied.

My 2010 NC gear action is quite sticky when cold but fine when warm. 55k miles.
I am getting it serviced next month and I will discuss having the oil changed.
It's a common problem and one which is only remedied by buying my gearbox oil.I am getting it serviced next month and I will discuss having the oil changed.

I tried to contact you through your website to buy some but seemed to not get any response. Finally got around to doing the gearbox oil, supplied by Evoluzione. Feels so much better, I haven't done the shifter bush as I need one for the NC1 but just doing the oil has made such a difference. I'll see how it is on the daily commute through the rest of the week but so far so good. I'm just wishing I did it earlier.

I put Castrol TRANSMAX Manual Multivehicle 75W-90 in mine. I think it was the first time it would have ever had a change for 12 years and 85k miles, as no previous record.Made a huge difference, it went from tired feeling, to good. But there are still slight issues with shifting between 2 and 3. Mostly in the cold, almost like some sort of slight misalignment somewhere for a micro second. It’s not bothered me enough though, as it’s still better than any of my previous cars including high performance versions of the German cars.
