My 2006 2.0 NC starts to squeak/whine when I turn right at low speeds, such as parallel parking. Nothing when turning left, which is strange.

I imagine this is an issue with the steering rack, which would mean changing the fluid, but the car was serviced and MOTd a few weeks ago.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Currently waiting a week and a half until I can see my mechanic.

If this squeak is only happening in line with wheel speed, then I'd recommend looking at your brakes first of all.

I had a similar issue with my nc2 recently, it was squeaking at slow speeds when maneuvering - particularly when turning left. I'd assumed it was a CV joint going bad as it was much worse when the car had been on a run, it turns out it was actually a combination of a sticking caliper guide pin on the front right brake (very common issue) and the bottom of the backing plate/dust shield being a little bent - just enough to touch on the disc and squeak when everything had got hot and expanded 0.5mm (not helped by the very slightly dragging brake).

A new set of guide pins for £12 on ebay and a judicious application of brute force to bend the offending bit of dust shield away from the back of the disc and all is once again right with the world.
